Contrasting from usual laptops using layers of plastic to cover the core, Italia elegantly reveals the metal structure. This innovative design not only strengthens the structure by using metal as its shell but also reduces the plastic usage in the making of the laptop.
The design of Italia was inspired by the Italian Steel Furniture; the characteristic of steel furniture is in its metal frame. The designer uses the simplest lines to shape the furniture, and uses fabric and leather to outline its body. Italia emphasizes this concept in its design; projecting a clean and light visual perception.
Normally when manufacturing a laptop, the exterior design is created by covering the core with an additional plastic shell. Although the laptop may appear lighter, the actual weight is increased. Italia, on the other hand, reveals metal as its exterior shelling, and gets rid of the extra plastic shell. The design of Italia not only looks lighter, but is lighter. Furthermore, Italia replaces plastic bearings that connect the laptop screen with sheet rubber, adding a classical and chic feel to the design.
For the consideration of the production process, there are two different proposals:
With different materials and procedures, Italia is able to achieve even more goals.
