Cellulose acetate is a lightweight, glossy material commonly used to produce eyeglasses, jewelry and fashion fabrics such as satin. We found that its light reflection and rich color retention properties make it an unexpected but stunning material for notebook computers.
By using a heat forming process called Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) and backlighting, the unique properties of cellulose acetate are brought out in the design, allowing the colors of the notebook to be strong, yet also translucent.
